Swig submitted a construction plan permit to Charlotte officials on Wednesday, April 8. The chain wants to build a drive-thru on Lawing School Road near Rozelle Crossing shopping center. City permit records show the request covers a proposed drive-thru with related infrastructure.

This northwest Charlotte site would be the first North Carolina spot for the dirty soda chain. Two stores already run in Rock Hill and Indian Land, South Carolina.

The Utah-based brand started in 2010. It claims to be home to the original dirty soda — sodas mixed with fruit, cream, purées, and other flavors. Mormons favor these drinks as a booze-free option.

Nicole Tanner started the company in Utah. Last year, the chain opened its 100th store.

"From our humble beginnings to now having 100 locations in 14 states, I'm amazed at everything our team has accomplished," Tanner said, according to the Charlotte Observer. "Swig represents happiness in a cup, and our customers mean the world to us!"

The business also sells flavored waters, snacks, and desserts. Its first Carolinas spot opened in Indian Land during summer 2025 and drew a big following. A second store later opened in Rock Hill.

A similar permit filed in March hints that the chain might build a drive-thru in Charlotte's Steele Creek area. The request is just the first step. The business hasn't been approved yet to open in the city.

Charlotte's Rozelle Crossing shopping center is a strip mall housing several businesses and food options. It sits at the corner of Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road and Bellhaven Boulevard, with access from Lawing School Road.
