Sugar Creek Brewing Company will pack up and head from Charlotte to Gastonia sometime between late 2026 and early 2027. The brewery made the announcement Wednesday.
Records from Gaston County show they purchased the Chester Street building in January. Cavendish Brewery used to run there, according to Queen City News.
The LoSo anchor has kept its only public spot on Southside Drive going since 2013. Sugar Creek grabbed the space after Olde Mecklenburg Brewing shifted a block over to Yancey Road.
Joe Vogelbacher and co-founder Eric Flanigan run things. Their Pale Ale and Big O brews have won praise.
Beacon Partners holds the deed to where they are now. It's one of the oldest breweries still running in the Queen City.
Earlier this year, they added a taproom at Charlotte Douglas International. The airport spot on Concourse A started pouring in late February.
At the airport, you can get First in Flight Pilsner. It's only on tap there. The beer gives a nod to the brand and the state's flying history.
"First in Taste" is what the company calls itself. The beer's name tips its hat to what North Carolina did for flight.
This shift ends more than ten years in Charlotte's LoSo area. Sugar Creek has anchored the neighborhood since they took the Southside Drive building.
Once everything's done, the Chester Street place will run the show. Another brewing operation called that Gastonia spot home before the January sale.
They're still keeping the airport taproom open while this happens. That airport-only beer is its own thing, separate from where they make most of their drinks.
