Charlotte will roll out touchscreen kiosks citywide through a deal with IKE Smart City. City officials want residents to weigh in by May 15 on what these screens should display.

The kiosks will deliver information about happenings, municipal services, and neighborhood features in spots where pedestrians congregate. A pilot unit sits in the Government Center lobby now.

Brandon Brezeale with Charlotte DOT said the arrangement won't drain public funds. "It's going to be no cost to the city, and they're going to display information such as wayfinding, public events, we're going to be able to highlight local businesses, as well as put some city content out there," said Brezeale, according to WCCB Charlotte.

These screens might showcase dining options: retail stores, concerts, employment opportunities, and government programs. Planners are asking residents, households, employees, merchants, and tourists what data matters most.

Public responses will steer initial kiosk programming. Decision-makers aim to match screen material with what the community actually needs.

People can take the survey at the Government Center kiosk or through the web. It shuts down at 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 15.

Once feedback collection wraps up, administrators will release findings. This document will show how citizen suggestions influenced what goes on the kiosks.
