Chipotle filed paperwork with Charlotte officials asking permission to build at The Arboretum shopping center on Pineville-Matthews Road. The company wants to construct a Mexican-inspired grill there, plus all the needed parking lots, water lines, and electrical hookups that come with it.
City workers are checking the plans now. Nobody knows when construction might start — or if it will.
The chain operates more than a dozen spots around Charlotte. Dilworth has one, so does South End and University City. People across the metro can already grab their fix at multiple addresses.
Chipotle built its reputation on burritos and bowls that diners piece together themselves, picking each ingredient as they slide down the assembly line. Over the years, the company climbed to become one of the biggest names in quick-serve dining.
If approved, the new spot would open at 3081 Pineville-Matthews Road. The Arboretum already hosts McDonald's, Taco Bell, Barnes & Noble, Roz Grill, and a Harris Teeter.
The Charlotte Observer contacted the company on Jan. 23 but hadn't heard back yet. More details weren't available at press time.
