Saturday's playoff game will pull an estimated 280,000 visitors into Uptown Charlotte. That's a $30 million injection of spending, both direct and indirect, according to Charlotte Center City Partners. The matchup ranks as one of the ten busiest days this area will see in 2026.
James LaBar serves as Chief Community and Economic Officer at Charlotte Center City Partners. He explained how the money flows from an unexpected bonus game. "A home NFL playoff game usually generates around $30 million of direct and indirect spending directly into our economy that was not planned for because it's an extra home game," LaBar said, per Queen City News.
Restaurants will pack out. Hotels will fill. Streets will buzz with crowds moving through the city. LaBar sees ripples that go past the immediate cash flow. "Uptown and South End becomes this demonstration point of vibrancy, which creates a stickiness factor for everyone that is here," LaBar said, according to Queen City News. "And everyone that is watching the game from afar, is like 'Wow, I've got to check Charlotte out.'"
The Panthers are back in postseason play, and fans have lit up with anticipation. Bobby Shoemaker has held season tickets since the franchise kicked off its first year. He remembers what playoff electricity feels like in this stadium.
"If anybody was here when the Dallas playoff game was here, they know how excited this place can be," said Shoemaker to Queen City News. "So I'm really looking forward to this weekend."
Robert Hawkins lived through the nail-biting wait to clinch a playoff spot. "We sat on the edge of our seat all the way through yesterday," Hawkins said, according to Queen City News. "Saturday, we went out to a bar, watched it, left disappointed, but I still had hope."
LaBar placed Saturday among Uptown's peak activity days for the entire year. "A game like this will be a top ten in 2026 days of the year for Uptown," LaBar said, according to Queen City News. "So we're looking at maybe 280,000 visits into Uptown on that Saturday."
Bank of America Stadium hosts the contest this weekend.
