Cook Out Plans 19 New Locations Across Six States as Many Chains Struggle
The new restaurants will open in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Alabama gets one location in Foley. Georgia adds two spots in Gainesville and Kingsland.

Cook Out will open at least 19 new restaurants across six states. The fast-food chain made the announcement while other major chains — Denny's, Red Lobster, and TGI Friday's — close hundreds of locations nationwide.
The North Carolina-based chain posted the new locations on its website in October. Several spots have opened in recent months.
The new restaurants will open in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Alabama gets one location in Foley. Georgia adds two spots in Gainesville and Kingsland. Florida gains one location in Jacksonville.
North Carolina will see four new restaurants. They'll open in Charlotte, Fayetteville, Locust, and Zebulon. Tennessee will add three locations in Antioch, Hermitage, and Nashville. Virginia gains six spots in Chesapeake, Roanoke, Salem, Virginia Beach, and Yorktown.
Officials in Charlotte told USA Today that one Charlotte location no longer appears on the website. Kill Devil Hills officials said the chain bought property after selling an earlier site in 2022.
The chain runs more than 300 restaurants across 10 states. Morris Reaves founded the company in Greensboro, North Carolina, in 1989. Its motto, "Always Fresh, Never Frozen," reflects what the brand stands for — quality food.
The menu features grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, nuggets, quesadillas, and Cheddar Style Burgers. The chain offers more than 40 milkshake flavors. Options run from vanilla to banana pudding and peach cobbler. Sides include fries, hushpuppies, slaw, and onion rings.
One diner shared on Facebook that her son declared the grilled chicken sandwich "better than Olive Garden" after his first bite. "As he took a bite of the grilled chicken sandwich, his eyes got big as saucers. He said, 'Mom, this is better than Olive Garden. And you know how much I love Olive Garden,'" she said.
Denny's plans to close up to 150 locations by year's end. Red Lobster will shutter over 100 stores under new CEO Damola Adamolekun. TGI Friday's closed 30 locations in April due to bankruptcy. Applebee's expects 20 to 35 closures in 2025. Noodles & Company will close between 17 and 21 spots.
The exact opening dates have not been announced. The restaurants are expected to begin operating in 2026.
