The Charlotte Road Runner 'Vettes Corvette Club gathered close to 1,000 toys for kids at their yearly toy benefit on Saturday at Hendrick Motorsports. The gathering marked another year of working with the Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte.

Dozens of Corvette owners showed up. The toys will reach kids before the holidays through the Salvation Army.

The club has been collecting toys for years now, building this into something they do every season. Members have pulled in thousands of presents through small gatherings like Saturday's.

"We're in the neighborhood of 12,000 or more toys that we've contributed with the Salvation Army as a distribution point for the toys," said Jerome Johnson with Road Runner 'Vettes, according to Queen City News. "People come from all over, and all the Corvette clubs, to want to put back into the community."

Saturday kicked off the holiday season for many in the area. Some didn't wait to get into the festive spirit.

Corvette clubs from different spots joined in to support the cause. They came from around the region.

The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte serves as the spot where donations get sorted and sent out. The group will get the presents to families in need before the season arrives.

Johnson talked about the community support that makes these drives work. The combined push from multiple clubs has created a big impact when you add it all up.

Hendrick Motorsports hosted Saturday's gathering, providing space for the collection and for participants to meet.

The 12,000-plus total shows years of work. Each small gathering adds to what they've done.

Saturday's 1,000-toy haul adds to what the club keeps doing. They're building on their track record of giving back.

The countdown to the holidays has started, and groups like Road Runner 'Vettes are helping make sure kids in the area will have gifts to open this year.
