Wayflyer Expands US Presence With New Charlotte HQ, Boosting Local Fintech Scene

The Irish finance firm Wayflyer picked Charlotte, North Carolina, for its U.S. base on Oct. 23. They plan to add 20 staff in sales, success, and risk review spots.
"Charlotte is proud to welcome Wayflyer as they expand their U.S. presence," said Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles per a news release. "Wayflyer's commitment to empowering consumer brands aligns perfectly with Charlotte's entrepreneurial spirit. Their investment and job creation will have a meaningful impact on our thriving startup ecosystem, and we're excited to see their continued growth here."
After scouting various cities, Charlotte stood out. Its East Coast spot works well with worldwide teams. The city's deep pool of money-smart workers caught their eye. So far, they've put $60 million into North Carolina firms.
"Charlotte's thriving finance ecosystem, rich talent pool, and strong university connections made it the ideal location for our U.S. hub," said Aidan Corbett, CEO and co-founder at Wayflyer. "Having a dedicated team on the ground allows us to better serve our U.S. customers and support their growth journeys in real time."
Since 2020, Wayflyer has given $5 billion to help 5,000 brands grow across 11 lands. With 300 workers now, they've hit $100 million in worldwide sales. A New York office stays open too.
"Wayflyer's announcement demonstrates that Mecklenburg County remains a strong anchor for fintech and international business," said Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners Chair Mark Jerrell. "We welcome Wayflyer, along with the many opportunities this expansion will create for our workforce and local economy."
CNBC named them a top money tech firm for 2025. They ranked high on Deloitte's fast-growing list in 2024. The firm helps brands get quick cash without selling parts of their business.
Over 1,000 worldwide firms call Charlotte home. In just 18 months, nine firms chose to grow here, like Siemens, AVL Manufacturing, and Daimler Truck Financial Services.
City and county teams worked with state groups, downtown partners, South Park teams, UNC Charlotte and others to bring Wayflyer here.
