Over 300 Duke Energy workers set a Guinness World Record in Charlotte on Oct. 17, packing emergency kits faster than anyone before. The workers smashed the record for most people assembling supply packs at once.

At the Charlotte Convention Center, staff teamed up with Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and the American Red Cross. In a flurry of activity, workers filled 7,000 kits. Each pack contained basic needs: blankets, ponchos, LED lights, medical supplies, and food that won't spoil.

"They're going to be on the shelves of food pantries to ensure that our neighbors who need that storm kit to be ready are ready for the next severe weather event," said Louis Duke, the director of Duke Energy Foundation, according to WXII12.

The kits will reach people in need across both Carolinas, spanning 24 counties. Distribution started right after the record-breaking feat.

This push comes when storms threaten the coast. With Hurricane Helene's damage still fresh, these supplies could make a real difference. Many families lack basic items when bad weather strikes.

Guinness officials watched closely as workers raced against time. The team packed 269 kits during the official count, well above what they needed for the record.

Food banks will now send these life-saving supplies where they're needed most. The network of helpers stretches across both states, making sure no community gets left behind when storms hit.
