Starting fall 2026, UNC Charlotte will add three fresh programs to its lineup. The school got approval from the UNC Board of Governors last September to start bachelor's and master's tracks in AI, plus a new construction engineering degree.

"These new degree programs demonstrate Charlotte's commitment to anticipating and responding to the needs of our region and state," said Jennifer Troyer, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, accoding to Inside UNC Charlotte. "By expanding educational opportunities in construction engineering and artificial intelligence, we are preparing graduates to lead in high-growth fields that are shaping the future."

The move puts the school in rare company. Only 20 U.S. schools teach AI at the bachelor's level. For master's programs, that number sits at 35. Students will learn to build smart systems and work with cutting-edge tech.

The new construction program fills a crucial need, connecting building site work with design plans, teaching skills that bridge gaps between blueprints and real-world projects. This meets a pressing need for qualified workers in the field.

Next fall brings another change: a web-based computer science BA program. This opens doors for students who need to mix work and study across North Carolina.

These additions mark big steps forward for the school's tech training. They build on strong foundations in engineering and computing, giving students clear paths into fast-growing job markets.

The timing fits well with local needs. North Carolina's tech and building sectors keep growing, and they need skilled workers. Both AI experts and construction pros are in high demand. Students can start these programs when classes begin in fall 2026.
