Downtown Mooresville will host the 15th Annual Turkey Trot 5K on Nov. 27. The Thanksgiving Day race aims to support The Christian Mission's work with thousands of people who need a hand up. Last year's event made it possible to assist more than 4,000 individuals.
Starting at 919 N. Main St., participants can choose between a 5K run or a half-mile dash for young kids. The cost? $40 gets you into the main race, while children 10 and under can join the fun run for $10.
Money raised goes straight to work in the community. The Christian Mission puts every cent toward basic needs: food on tables, clothes on backs, roofs over heads. They also offer guidance and teach useful skills.
Want to pick up your race stuff early? You've got three chances. Stop by Monday, Nov. 24 between noon and 7 p.m. Can't make it then? Tuesday's pickup runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Your last shot is Wednesday morning, from 9 until noon.
Race day starts bright and early. Be there by 8 a.m. sharp. Kids dash off at 8:30, with the main pack taking off at 9. But don't drag your feet: no late entries or bib pickups after 8:30 on race morning.
Speed demons, listen up. The fastest three men and women will snag gift cards from local running shops. Age group champs won't go home empty-handed either: special Turkey Trot prizes await.
Sign up before Nov. 1 to grab a custom race shirt from Freeman Screen Printers. Got some extra canned goods? Bring them along: they're collecting non-perishable food items at the event.
Rather cheer from the sidelines? They need volunteers too. Questions? Drop a line to the race director: toverholt@thechristianmission.org.
