The YMCA of Greater Charlotte sold a 4-acre plot at its Lowe's campus to Josh's Farmers Market. The deal sets up a fixed spot at 170 Knox Ave. in Mooresville. Construction plans include both indoor and outdoor market spaces, with work starting this fall.

Spring 2026 marks the target opening date. Shoppers will use shared parking with the YMCA, while new restroom facilities will go up by the soccer grounds.

"This partnership aligns with our mission and our strategy to thoughtfully optimize our real estate assets in ways that bring more value to the communities we serve," said Sue Glass, president and CEO of YMCA of Greater Charlotte, per WCNC.com. "Together, we are building an integrated campus that expands access to healthy food for our members, program participants, and the broader Mooresville community."

Market owner Josh Graham weighed in on the site choice. "This location helps us serve more community members with fresh, local produce and goods, while creating a welcoming space where the community can gather," Graham said. "We're honored to partner with an organization that shares our commitment to health and community well-being."

From 2021 to 2023, the market set up shop at the YMCA grounds. Yet site problems cropped up, leading to a brief shutdown in fall 2022 after clashing with town officials.

Zoning troubles blocked progress until town leaders passed new open-air market rules last year. The change came after strong support from locals and shoppers who stood by the market through months of talks.

This land purchase ends years of uncertainty about the market's future in Mooresville. The upgraded site will stretch far past its old boundaries, mixing indoor stalls with open-air stands for year-round sales.
