Student numbers at UNC Charlotte shot up to 32,207 this fall. The mix includes 26,213 undergrads and 5,994 graduate students. This number surpasses the previous record of 31,091 in 2024.
“Charlotte’s record enrollment isn’t just about a growth in numbers. It is a reflection of the critical role we play in building the talent pipeline for our region and beyond,” said Chancellor Sharon L. Gaber. “Our location in one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities offers our students unparalleled opportunities to learn, conduct research, and connect directly with industry leaders. From first-year undergraduate students to Ph.D. candidates, students are choosing UNC Charlotte more than ever before because they see the powerful combination of a top-tier R1 institution and a city that thrives on innovation and opportunity.”
The school now draws students from nearly every corner of North Carolina, plus all states and other countries worldwide. Not only are they seeing a rise in enrollment, but also an increase of more than 13% in total honors enrollment from last year.
More students stick around, too. 85.8% came back after their first year, beating last year's 85.0%. Looks like many can't get enough of UNC Charlotte.
To fit everyone, the school has added space. Buildings are expanding, the stadium is seeing renovations, and new college housing has been added in the University area of the city for students.
As a top research school, UNC Charlotte runs over 300 study tracks. The campus keeps growing while doing big research work in North Carolina's biggest city.
