The check changed hands at Bank of America Stadium during the Keep Pounding High School Classic's halftime break. Young members from Cabarrus County watched the presentation unfold on the field.
"For decades, Boys & Girls Clubs across the nation have provided a safe, welcoming space where kids and teens can learn, grow and develop lifelong skills," said Don Hendricks, CEO at Belk, per PR Newswire. "Belk is proud to join forces with our customers to provide this donation so that those who need it most continue to receive resources and opportunities that open the door to great futures."
Each year, the Boys & Girls Clubs touch the lives of 4 million young people. Their work spans 5,500 sites: from busy city centers to quiet towns, from public housing communities to Native American lands.
Chad Hartman, who leads corporate partnerships nationally, stressed the gift's impact. "This donation allows us to serve more kids and teens, while strengthening the foundation of local communities for generations to come."
The event took place during breaks in action at the third Keep Pounding Classic. On the field, the Hough Huskies battled South Pointe Stallions while the Grimsley Whirlies faced off against the West Charlotte Lions.
Since 1888, the Charlotte-based Belk has grown to nearly 300 locations across 16 states in the Southeast. They maintain strong ties to local and national causes that make communities better.
