A two-day trip back to 1780 awaits visitors at the Museum of the Waxhaws. The Battle of Charlotte Living History Weekend, set for Aug. 30-31, brings the American Revolution to life with battle scenes and colonial displays.

Watch soldiers clash on the same ground where Patriots once fought against British troops. The mock battles paint a vivid picture of the 1780 conflict that stalled British forces in their tracks.

Step into a bustling camp where skilled actors breathe life into the 1700s. Blacksmiths pound hot metal, while camp cooks stir bubbling pots. Women in period dress spin wool and weave cloth, showing off the daily tasks that kept colonial life running.

The original Battle of Charlotte marked a turning point in America's war for freedom. Local fighters struck hard at British troops, throwing a wrench in their plans to march through the area.

Guest speakers will share tales of local bravery throughout both days. Their stories shine a light on how regular townspeople banded together, turning the tide of war in their own backyard.

Traditional merchants, known as sutlers, will offer handcrafted items much like those used in the 1700s. These vital traders once kept army camps stocked with needed supplies during wartime.

The event goes forward no matter the weather. Grab your spot at museumofthewaxhaws.org or buy tickets when you arrive.
