His track record spans multiple basketball leagues worldwide. After wrapping up his second stint with the Brooklyn Nets in 2023-24, Weaver brings fresh ideas to Charlotte's bench. His past work includes stops at the Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers.
Before his NBA work, Weaver cut his teeth at Texas and Sam Houston State. The 76ers brought him aboard in 2013, marking his first pro coaching role.
Success followed Weaver at each stop. He clinched G League Coach of the Year in 2019 with Long Island. His next move took him to Australia, where the Sydney Kings reached the NBL Finals. From there, he led Paris Basketball in France until 2023.
His international experience runs deep. Back in 2014, Weaver worked with Australia's national squad. As assistant to Andrej Lemanis, he helped guide the Boomers through the FIBA World Cup and into the 2016 Olympics.
The Hornets aim to turn things around after a tough 19-win season. Their roster features star guard LaMelo Ball paired with Miles Bridges. New additions Collin Sexton and Pat Connaughton add depth to the mix.
Draft day brought more talent to Charlotte. Duke standout Kon Knueppel came aboard as the fourth pick, while Sion James and Ryan Kalkbrenner joined through round two.
This shift in coaching staff follows Steve Clifford's exit. The former Hornets head coach now serves as an advisor with Phoenix.
