The Southern chicken chain will add 55 stores in New York and New Jersey within ten years. Their first NYC spot in four decades opens in Brooklyn's East Flatbush this winter.
Through a deal with Hashimi Holding Corporation, 20 stores will open in NYC. The rest will spread across New Jersey. This marks a big push into the Northeast market.
"Bojangles has always stood out to me – from its delicious chicken, biscuits, and breakfast to its incredible franchisee support system," said Habib Hashimi to Patch. "I'm confident residents will fall in love with the Southern flavors, hospitality, and convenience Bojangles has to offer."
The chain first tried NYC in 1982 on Manhattan's Sixth Avenue. Despite breaking breakfast sales records at launch, that store closed in 2007. Now they're back for a second try.
Bojangles runs 850 stores nationwide. Most sit in the Carolinas:- 349 in North Carolina and 151 in South Carolina. Their chicken-and-biscuits combo has built a strong following in these states.
"It's a monumental moment, now that we're entering the New York Metropolitan area again," said Bojangles CEO Jose Armario to Daily Voice. "The East Coast is craving the authentic, Southern charm that Bojangles delivers."
Word has spread that Bojangles might sell soon. Axios reports the chain could fetch $1.5 billion.
Just one store serves New Jersey now, in Piscataway. The chain wants to open in Marlboro, Vineland, Neptune, and Brick. But these spots aren't locked in yet.
Since 1977, this Charlotte-born chain has served fried chicken and fresh biscuits all day long. Right now, you'll find just three stores up north: in Frederick, Maryland; Piscataway, New Jersey; and Quakertown, Pennsylvania.
