Construction at Jerry Richardson Stadium is set to kick off on August 11. The $60 million makeover will now allow for over 18,000 seats by 2027, transforming UNC Charlotte's sports hub.
Workers will set up their gear near the grounds as August begins. The real work starts after the big UNC Chapel Hill matchup on Sept. 6. That game marks the last time fans will use the stadium in its current state.
The fresh design adds fancy boxes up high and special seats with views you can't beat. Inside, a sleek club space waits, while outside decks stretch from east to west. Athletes get a year-round spot to grab meals when practice wraps up.
Once the Chapel Hill game ends, Gate 2 shuts down and stays that way through 2025. The other gates keep working while crews tear into their tasks.
Big shifts hit the stadium's daily flow right away. Buses won't run on Mac Everett Way South anymore. After the September clash, metal fences will spring up to mark off work zones.
People who need wheelchair access won't hit any roadblocks. Clear markers will point out new paths around the work site.
This growth spurt means big things for the 49ers. With thousands more seats, the stadium now opens its doors to events that previously couldn't fit.
Want to know how game days might change? The athletics site posts fresh updates often. Until those fences go up in September, you're free to walk the grounds.
For two full seasons, fans will watch their team play while workers reshape the stadium around them. By spring 2027, they'll step into a whole new ballgame.
