"It's our initiative where we're expanding outside the Charlotte metro area," a team spokesperson told Queen City News.
Boys and Girls Club kids rushed to the court with wild excitement. NBA star Dell Curry showed up to coach, while Hugo the mascot kept spirits high with tricks and flips, high-fiving kids and joining their practice sessions. His antics brought smiles to every face in the building.
Next stops include Concord and Gastonia. The team wants to build bonds with young fans across both states.
Rock Hill marked day one of this big push to connect with fans. Staff ran drills while kids soaked up every tip and trick they could learn.
Curry spent time with each player, fixing shooting forms and sharing secrets from his time in the NBA. His 16 years of pro experience shone through as he worked with the kids.
Kids darted between training stations spread across the gym floor. Some worked on dribbling skills, while others practiced passing or took shots at the hoop.
Staff picked sites based on distance from Charlotte and strong youth programs. This way, they could reach kids who rarely meet pro players.
The upcoming visits will stick to this winning formula. Each stop mixes skills training with fun team activities and chances to meet Hornets staff.
