Chef Jon Fortes plans to open Sip & Cinder, a smoke house and craft cocktail venue, at 1325 N. Broome St. in Waxhaw when October begins.

"We're trying to stay out of the big city a little bit," Fortes said, according to CharlotteFive. "We looked around in Waxhaw and felt there was a need for what we do here."

Inside the 3,700-square-foot space, guests will find seating for 70, plus a bar that fits 12. The menu stars slow-smoked cuts: — brisket, ribs, pork, and chicken — alongside fresh-caught seafood from both Carolinas.

This marks the fifth spot under The Flipside Restaurant Group's banner. Their other spots include The Flipside Cafe, The Flipside Restaurant, Salmeri's Italian Kitchen, and FM Eatery scattered through Fort Mill and Rock Hill.

"We want to have bartenders putting on a show when they're making really nice cocktails, but the food has to be center stage as well," said Fortes per Newsbreak.com. His new menu mixes tried-and-true hits from his other spots with fresh barbecue creations.

Taking over the former VegGeez spot, Sip & Cinder shifts from plant-based to premium meats. They'll serve cage-free chicken and hormone-free cuts. Small plates will tempt diners with bacon-wrapped dates and coastal shrimp paired with creamy grits.

His time as corporate chef at Burke Hospitality Group's Harper's Restaurant shaped his vision. "We're going to kind of be more of an upscale Harper's," he said.

Community ties run deep with this group. They work with Fort Mill schools, support cancer research, and join forces with Share Our Strength to feed hungry kids.

"It's not just about us," Fortes said. "It's about everyone around here."

Weekend brunch adds to the mix, with takeout ready for busy days. The spot welcomes both quick bites and special nights out.
